Ritz crackers were launched in 1934 by the National Biscuit Company, Nabisco, when America was deep in the Great Depression, and the name promised a bite of the good life. The cracker is round and golden, with a scalloped edge and seven holes, rich and lightly sweet with salt on top, the kind people eat by the stack.
