About these crackers

Ritz Cheese Flavoured Crackers Box, in brief.

Ritz Cheese are Ritz crackers with 5.3% cheese powder and black pepper in the dough: small, round, golden and rich, with a savoury, cheesy flavour. The label gives a serving as 8 crackers (30g).

They use sunflower oil, so saturated fat is 4.7g per 100g on the label data, low for a rich cracker, with 24.7g of total fat.

Ritz is the round, golden, rich cracker that people eat by the stack, and the cheese version adds cheese powder, a milk based flavouring and a little black pepper. The dough uses wheat flour and sunflower oil, glucose fructose syrup and sugar for colour, and yeast powder and raising agents for a light, short bite.

It is a snacking cracker first: very good on its own, with drinks, and under a slice of ham or a mild cheese.

Brand

The story behind Ritz

Ritz crackers were launched in 1934 by the National Biscuit Company, Nabisco, when America was deep in the Great Depression, and the name promised a bite of the good life. The cracker is round and golden, with a scalloped edge and seven holes, rich and lightly sweet with salt on top, the kind people eat by the stack. The Ritz Original on our shelf lists wheat flour, palm oil, sugar, glucose fructose syrup, raising agents, salt and barley malt flour, and carries a vegan claim on the label. Alongside it we stock Ritz Cheese, with cheese powder and black pepper, and Ritz Breaks in lunchbox packs. Wikipedia notes that in May 2024 the 200g boxes were replaced by 150g boxes at the same price.

Packaging: a 140g pack. Once the pack is open, fold it tightly closed or tip the crackers into an airtight tin, and keep them somewhere cool and dry. Damp air is what softens a cracker. The pack gives the best before date.
