Nairn's Gluten Free Original Wholegrain Crackers, 160g
A crisp, plain gluten free cracker from oats, maize and rice: the gluten free board's answer to the water biscuit.
Nairn's Gluten Free Original Wholegrain Crackers, in brief.
Nairn's Gluten Free Original Wholegrain Crackers are crisp, plain crackers made from gluten free wholegrain oats, maize flour and rice flour, lifted with ammonium carbonates and seasoned with sea salt.
They are lighter and crisper than an oatcake, a gluten free stand in for a plain cheese cracker, with 5.8g of fibre and 1.56g of salt per 100g on the label data.
Where an oatcake is rough and crumbly, a wholegrain cracker is crisp and smooth. Nairn's makes this gluten free cracker from wholegrain oats blended with maize and rice flours and starches, raised with ammonium carbonates so it bakes light and snaps cleanly.
The flavour is gentle, toasted and oaty, with a little brown rice syrup for colour. It does the job of a plain cracker on a gluten free cheese board.

The story behind Nairn's
Nairn's story begins in 1896, when John and Sarah Nairn opened their bakery in Strathaven, a market town in Lanarkshire. Today Nairn's bakes in Edinburgh, and oats are the whole point: oatcakes rough and fine, cheese oatcakes, seeded and organic oatcakes, and a gluten free range. The oatcake is the Scottish cracker, mostly wholegrain oats with a little oil and salt, baked into a nutty, crumbly round that loves strong cheese; Nairn's Rough Oatcakes list 90% wholegrain oats. The gluten free oatcakes, crackers and flatbreads are made with gluten free oats, and Nairn's own label notes that some people who avoid gluten also react to avenin, a protein in oats.
Packaging: a 160g pack. Once the pack is open, fold it tightly closed or tip the crackers into an airtight tin, and keep them somewhere cool and dry. Damp air is what softens a cracker. The pack gives the best before date.
