Jacob's High Fibre Cream Crackers, 200g
A cream cracker with 6.4g of fibre per 100g and a vegan claim: same job, a little more to it.
Jacob's High Fibre Cream Crackers, in brief.
Jacob's High Fibre Cream Crackers are the cream cracker with more fibre: 3% wheat bran and 3% vegetable fibre (inulin and pea) go into the dough, for 6.4g of fibre per 100g on the label. The pack carries vegan and vegetarian claims.
The label gives 25 crackers in the 200g pack, each 7.3g. They look and behave like a cream cracker, with a slightly heartier, bran flecked bite.
Fibre is the thing most crackers are short of, and this version of the cream cracker adds some without changing what the cracker is for. The flour is 86% of the recipe, joined by 3% wheat bran and 3% vegetable fibre from inulin and pea, then palm and sunflower oils, salt, sodium bicarbonate and yeast.
The result is still a plain, crisp square that takes butter and cheese, with a slightly nuttier flavour from the bran. It suits anyone who likes cream crackers and wants a little more fibre from their lunch.

Taste and texture
Expect a plain, toasty flavour with a bran note and a crisp, layered bite. The label gives 476 kcal, 19.3g of fat and only 0.8g of sugars per 100g, with 1.7g of salt.
What is in it
Flour (86%) (wheat flour, calcium, iron, niacin, thiamin), vegetable oils (palm, sunflower), vegetable fibre (inulin, pea) (3%), wheat bran (3%), salt, raising agent (sodium bicarbonate) and yeast. The label declares wheat (gluten) and carries vegan and vegetarian claims.
Serving it
Use them exactly as you would a cream cracker: butter and Cheddar, cheese and pickle, or cottage cheese with tomato. The bran note suits a mature Cheddar and a sharp chutney.

The story behind Jacob's
Jacob's began with W. and R. Jacob's steam biscuit factory in Dublin in 1853, and it was making cream crackers from around 1885: the plain, crisp, blistered square raised with yeast that is still the everyday cracker of British kitchens. In 1914 Jacob's opened its first English factory at Aintree, Liverpool, which Wikipedia records as the main UK producer of Jacob's products today. The range has grown far beyond the cream cracker. On our shelf you will find Cheddars and Mini Cheddars, the rich, flaky Cornish Wafers, Krackawheat with 31% ryemeal, Choice Grain, the potato based Bites, TUC, flatbreads, crispbreads and the Biscuits for Cheese selection box.
Packaging: a 200g pack. Once the pack is open, fold it tightly closed or tip the crackers into an airtight tin, and keep them somewhere cool and dry. Damp air is what softens a cracker. The pack gives the best before date.
