Jacob's Cornish Wafers Crackers, 150g
A rich, flaky, layered cracker from four ingredients: made for crumbly Cheddar and strong cheeses.
Jacob's Cornish Wafers Crackers, in brief.
Jacob's Cornish Wafers are rich, flaky, layered crackers made from just fortified wheat flour, palm oil, wheat starch and salt. There is no raising agent in the list: flaky crackers like these get their layers from fat worked through the dough.
The pack carries a vegetarian claim and says it may contain milk. At 29.1g of fat and only 0.4g of sugars per 100g, they are rich but not sweet, a cracker for Cheddar and strong cheeses.
Cornish Wafers sit at the rich end of the cracker shelf. They bake into thin, flaky layers, so a Cornish Wafer shatters into fine flakes when you bite it. The ingredient list is one of the shortest we carry: flour, palm oil, wheat starch and salt.
That richness and flakiness make them a cheese cracker with character. They stand up to a crumbly Cheddar or Wensleydale, and they bring a buttery style texture that plain water biscuits do not.

The story behind Jacob's
Jacob's began with W. and R. Jacob's steam biscuit factory in Dublin in 1853, and it was making cream crackers from around 1885: the plain, crisp, blistered square raised with yeast that is still the everyday cracker of British kitchens. In 1914 Jacob's opened its first English factory at Aintree, Liverpool, which Wikipedia records as the main UK producer of Jacob's products today. The range has grown far beyond the cream cracker. On our shelf you will find Cheddars and Mini Cheddars, the rich, flaky Cornish Wafers, Krackawheat with 31% ryemeal, Choice Grain, the potato based Bites, TUC, flatbreads, crispbreads and the Biscuits for Cheese selection box.
Packaging: a 150g pack. Once the pack is open, fold it tightly closed or tip the crackers into an airtight tin, and keep them somewhere cool and dry. Damp air is what softens a cracker. The pack gives the best before date.
